Updated: Jul 22, 2022

If you’re looking for a truly one-of-a-kind destination for your next getaway, look no further than Austin, Texas. You will find no shortage of attractions here to keep you feeling refreshed, renewed, and grateful.

Austin is the ideal place to enjoy a long weekend. But don’t expect to just kick back and relax. Austin has so much to offer so let's get ready for three jam-packed days of fun!

Austin weather is a pleasant almost all-around year, but summer months between July and September temperature climb up with high humidity. So I recommend avoiding the summer months.

And just like weather you will find warm and kind people everywhere in Austin.

Places to visit

Whether a long-time resident or a visitor just passing through town, Visiting Texas Capitol Building is highly recommended making time to tour the magnificent Texas State Capital building and grounds. It's free, it is gorgeous and has great food.

At first glance, the Texas State Capitol looks quite similar to the U.S. Capitol Building in Washington, D.C. But did you know Texas State Capital Building is taller than the US State Capital building? it's 15 feet (4.5 meters) higher than its D.C. counterpart and is the largest state capitol in the country when including overall land size.

South Congress Street is famous for its shops, restaurants, lively crowd, and hipster style. You’ll find tons of little boutiques and fun shops you can explore. You will find really good spots to pick a cute sombrero or a pair of cowboy shoes.

UT Tower

The University of Texas at Austin is home to an impressive collection of museums.

The Blanton Museum of Art is one of the country’s leading university art museums.

If you are town during college football season put on some burnt orange clothes & visit UT Austin stadium or go to the nearest bar, there is a different vibe in the city you can enjoy.

Festivals

Austin is the city of artist. At the beginning of fall, Austin hosts hundreds of artists over two weekends for Austin City Limits music festival.

Techies and creative, innovative get a chance to showcase their talent in South By Southwest festival.

Bat Bridge

Embrace the wonderful weirdness of Austin and come out to see the spectacle of the Congress Avenue Bridge bats for yourself. You can get an incredible view of the bats from the water with different bat cruises available on Group-on, which put you right in the middle of the action on Lady Bird Lake. Or, ply the waters yourself with a little kayak or a canoe, which both offer night-time bat-watching kayak excursions. I walk down on the little to the right next to bat bridge to see amazing sunset with roughly 1.5 million bats ascending into the summer sky.

Downtown Austin

Downtown Austin is very walkable, but there are a lot of fun places to visit. Famous Sixth Street is a fun place for a night out with your friends.

But I definitely visiting Rainey street. Rows of historic bungalows have been transformed into a lively scene of cute little bars on Rainey Street. At the end of the night, stop by for the perfect late-night drink at Craft Pride.

Water sports

Lady Bird Lake is a great place for all sorts of water-sports. You can a kayak or a canoe for a warm summer evening. There are tons of rental shops around the perimeter of the lake where you can get all the equipment you need. Or if you want to try something fun take a Duck boat tour.

Food

Being a vegetarian it is always a challenge to find good food. While traveling to Texas my biggest worry was not able to find any vegetarian food and thank god I was so wrong.

Every other person asked me to try BBQ in Texas, but if you are vegan what do you do? There are a ton of vegan BBQ places, so don't be a disappointment. There are ton of vegan places around Austin. I tired Bouldin creek cafe vegan BBQ plate and it was Yum!

Food Trucks

You have to try food trucks in Austin. I have had the best street food one can find in the USA. Rainey street is one of the most popular streets for food trucks you should try. I was amazed at the variety of street food. I recommend trying Touchy Tacos & Lupe tortilla for tex-mex food. Or try some Indian food at G'Raj Mahal. This joint is right in the heart of Rainey Street. It has a huge range of dishes from BBQ kababs to vegetarian tikka masala.

To end your day on sweet note I recommend The Yard, milkshake bar. They are known for their variety of flavors and choices of crush-ins that they mix into your ice cream milkshakes.

All in all, Austin is a great city for a weekend getaway or a girl's trip. Austin has so much to do during the day and such a variety of nightlife, there is always an exciting adventure Austin has to offer.
